That One Pose That Helps Reduce Bloating During Periods

You know that feeling — your favourite kurta suddenly feels snug, your stomach feels tight after even a light dinner, and all you want to do is lie down. If bloating during periods shows up for you every month, you're far from alone. Between our love for a good thali and the salt that sneaks into everything from pickle to papad, many Indian women notice this puffiness getting louder right when their body is already asking for gentleness.

One pose I return to again and again, and often recommend to the women I teach, is Viparita Karani — legs up the wall. It sounds almost too simple, but many women find it genuinely soothing when bloating during periods makes everything feel heavy and slow.

Try it tonight: sit sideways next to a wall, swing your legs up as you lower your back down, and rest there for even two minutes with your palms open beside you, breathing slowly. Gravity does gentle work here, easing that puffy, waterlogged feeling many of us carry through the first day or two, especially in the humid stretch before Diwali or during a heavy monsoon week.

Every woman's body is different — and your yoga practice should be too. If you'd like a personalised yoga plan designed for exactly where you are right now, I'd love to help. It takes just 2 minutes to get started.
